I own numerous automatic knives including OTF knives. The “Ranger” OTF is exceptional especially for the price! It is lightweight, very comfortable in the hand, and the mechanism is tight and firm yet not too tight.
My two favorite traditional autos are a Pro-Tech (it is a beast of a knife that I have carried for about 20 years) and a Benchmade that I’ve carried for a little longer. With the Krate Tactical Ranger OTF, I now carry these three every day!
Unless you are ready to spend around $500 – several thousand (yes, you are reading that correctly, Hawk Knives by Father and Son duo) you cannot do any better than Krate Tactical’s OTF knives especially for the price. But, you can spend considerably more for a quality OTF and still not do any better except for a couple of other brands I can think of.
Try one and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Also, Krate backs their knifes with a lifetime warranty!! By all means, if you are independently wealthy, go with a Hawk OTF. Their knives do not have ANY play in the blades. However, if are you are cheap, like me, go ahead and give Krate a try!

nothing but good things to say about this knife, half the price of my microtech, and 5x more reliable. had it well over a year had to clean it once and tote it daily.
I’ve had dozens of others knives but this is my first OTF knife. Really impressed. seems really high quality for an incredible price. I’m excited to switch my EDC to it.
